Biography

Gerry Lopez, a Mexican saxophonist, composer, arranger, and producer, has been based in Europe since 2011. Throughout his career, he has released six albums as a soloist, exploring a wide spectrum of sound ranging from jazz tradition to free improvisation, and the traditional music of his Latin roots, such as Cuban and Mexican music.

In addition to his work as a soloist, Gerry Lopez has collaborated on over 100 recordings with renowned musicians in the United States, such as John Lee, Horacio ¨El Negro¨ Hernandez, Alvin Queen  and Brian Lynch, as well as in Europe, with figures like Joan Chamorro, Francois Lindemann, and Baptiste Herbin, among others.

From an early age, Gerry Lopez showed a special sensitivity to music, especially to the piano and classical music. At the age of 11, on medical advice, he began therapy to strengthen his respiratory system, thus discovering the saxophone and jazz. He was immediately captivated by the instrument's sound and the possibilities of improvisation and creation it offered.

Practically from the age of 13, Gerry Lopez was active in the music scene, touring and performing concerts with various projects. His destiny seemed predestined, as he had discovered his vocation for music.

Years later, Gerry Lopez would travel to Paris to study at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he would win several prestigious international awards, such as the national "Jazz a la Defense" award in France in 2012 and Saint German Des Près 2013 in Paris, France.

For a decade, Gerry Lopez would release six albums under his direction, taking his music to over 30 countries and performing at some of the most important venues and festivals in Europe, North America, and South America.

Today, Gerry Lopez is a professor of saxophone at the Conservatoire de Fribourg in Switzerland and artistic director of the New Fribourg Jazz Orchestra. In parallel, he is sponsored by Selmer Paris, Vandoren Paris, and AEA microphones.
